During a meeting with the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt (AmCham Egypt), Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, revealed that the government is preparing a national strategy for artificial intelligence (AI). He explained that this strategy will focus on training, research and export.

Regarding the training and research, the creation of an AI Academy is planned in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The academy will develop capacity and stimulate innovation in the field.

The focus on export will strengthen IT services revenues of US $3.25 billion in fiscal 2017/2018. That is an industry growth rate of 14.1%.

During the meeting, Amr Talaat pointed out that the upcoming national AI strategy reflects the importance the government grants to national innovation as a lever for transition to the digital society.

He affirmed investments will continue in this direction to enable the nation to take full advantage of ICTs and the fourth industrial revolution to become a world leader among countries with high socio-economic growth.
