Libyan Post Telecommunications & Information Technology Company (LPTIC) and telecom infrastructure provider Retelit Med signed an agreement which holds a 50% stake, covering the provision of strategic, technological and technical expertise to LPTIC subsidiaries LITC, an international wholesale operator, and Hatif Libya, a fixed-line operator. This support will help the country to progress in digital transformation.

Faisal Gergab, president of LPTIC explained that the agreement “is part of the digital transformation program adopted by the holding company regarding the development of infrastructure in Libya and the qualification of the network to provide efficient services […] We will collaborate with Retelit Med, a company with extensive expertise in the world of telecommunications, which contributes concretely to the construction of a sophisticated and advanced national network. Advanced technologies and know-how allow us to provide high-level services, ensuring our country an ecosystem increasingly oriented towards digital and innovation.”

A comprehensive and permanent ceasefire agreement was signed in Libya by general Khalifa Haftar in Benghazi and the Tripoli-based national unity government, under the auspices of the United Nations. After a decade of conflict, Libya has embarked on its reconstruction. It is in this context that the public telecom companies managed by LPTIC have initiated various projects to improve the national coverage in optical fiber, 4G and even the launch of 5G.

Giovanni Castellaneta, president of Retelit Med, said that the agreement with LPTIC will contribute “to the strengthening of political and economic relations between Italy and Libya with particular reference to the digital sphere, and will develop opportunities in the Mediterranean in terms of digitalization and competitiveness.”
