West Indian Ocean Cable Company (WIOCC), the leading player in the deployment of carrier-scale, future-proofed network infrastructure in Africa, extends affordable connectivity with 30 points of presence (PoPs) along the country’s southern coastline.
More towns and cities in South Africa will benefit as internet service providers (ISPs), mobile network operators (MNOs), content providers, and cloud operators gain access to enhanced network infrastructure. Covering a 1,700 km terrestrial link between Durban and Cape Town, the 30 additional PoPs are bringing more affordable connectivity to coastal towns — from Somerset West, Grabouw, Caledon and Swellendam in the Western Cape, up to Doonside, Kingsburgh, and Isipingo in KwaZulu Natal.
This initiative is part of a multi-billion Rand investment by WIOCC and has been integrated into WIOCC’s 16Tbps-ready optical transport network (OTN) enabled hyperscale national backbone network. As a result, this flexible infrastructure enables rapid turn-up of capacity from 1Gbps up to multiples of 100Gbps, proving its efficiency and scalability.
Generally, WIOCC offers services such as high-quality Carrier IP Transit (IPT), point-to-point national connectivity, and open access colocation services in specific locations.
