Africa Data Centres, a business of Cassava Technologies Group, has signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with DPA Southern Africa Pty Ltd (DPA SA), a joint company of Distributed Power Africa and the French utility company, EDF. DPA SA will supply 12MW of renewable solar energy for Africa Data Centres facilities in South Africa.

Vertiv, a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, has announced a distribution agreement with TechAccess, a leading information technology company based in South Africa, to allow TechAccess to distribute Vertiv’s integrated rack solutions portfolio designed for the enterprise sector and to support critical infrastructure systems.

Nigerian telecom subscribers will soon be able to access the USSD service portals of the various telecom operators using the same short codes. The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) announced that telecom companies have begun implementing the short code harmonization process in accordance with Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) guidelines.

Telkom South Africa is planning to lay off up to 15% of its workforce as part of a new restructuring program to cut costs. The partially state-owned operator has started a formal consultation process for retrenchments that will impact all business units and subsidiaries and is intended to ensure the sustainability of the group in the long term.

Kenya has asked the World Bank for $600 million in digital superhighway funding. The project includes the deployment of more than 100,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable across Kenya and the creation of 25,000 public Wi-Fi access points, as well as digital villages and studios in each of the country's 1,450 districts. It also provides for the digitization of 5,000 government services by mid-2023.

Senegal has made significant progress in the development of its digital economy in recent years, with a particular focus on expanding access to the internet and promoting the use of digital technologies in various sectors. As of 2023, the country has an estimated 14.7 million internet users, representing a penetration rate of around 80%.
