As per the quarterly announcement of the trading update of Vodacom Group Limited, the Group revenue increased 14.8% (4.7%) to R30.7 billion, positively impacted by the acquisition of Vodafone Egypt and rand depreciation against our basket of international currencies. In addition, Group service revenue was up 16.1%, with normalized growth of 3.5%, supported by growth in data revenue and financial services.

New year, new financial resolutions. In partnership with NBE and Fawry, Orange Egypt is launching Orange Cash, a digital service designed to easily pay, receive and transfer money from and to any e-wallet, buy movie tickets, make donations and manage all the money, anytime, anywhere. According to Orange Egypt, this service will enable the customer to pay instantly through a list of merchants by scanning Meeza QR codes in stores or online merchants with a payment link. Most anyone with a cell phone will be able to use it.

MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita has called for the modernization and harmonization of regulatory frameworks across Africa as well as the collective effort of all stakeholders to ensure that the continent can deliver universal broadband coverage by 2030. “The regulatory frameworks for Africa’s telecommunications industry do not reflect our current advancement. They are still positioned for the era of voice,” said Mupita at the Africa Prosperity Dialogue held at Peduase in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Research shows that MTN was the best mobile network in South Africa for 2022. While the country had an average mobile download speed of 49.19 Mbps (and an average upload speed of 14.15 Mbps) last year, MTN had the highest average download speed at 68.84 Mbps, followed by Vodacom at 48.58 Mbps, Telkom at 28.54 Mbps, Cell C at 23.41 Mbps and Rain at 15.14 Mbps.

Telecom Egypt (WE) unveiled an updated logo and a new tagline, "Like No Other," in recognition of 12,000,000 subscribers and five years of noteworthy accomplishments. This makes WE the fourth service provider in Egypt and the first company to offer integrated services to telecom users.

With the help of its technical partners, American Tower Corporation (ATC) and Ubuntu, telecom operator Airtel Uganda inaugurated 29 new 4G telecom towers last week. With these, the company will improve both the network coverage and the quality of services offered to its customers.
